沒有中國文化的根，
having lost their roots in Chinese culture,
他們的內心是很掙扎的。

所以作為海外成長的孩子的母親，
As a mother,
我的內心也是很掙扎的，
I was struggling too.
我是心不甘的。
However, I was not ready to give up.
當聽到文禮書院的時候，
So when I learned about Wenli Academy,
我內心就有一種東西萌發了，
seeds of hope sprouted in my heart,
特別特別想回來看看，
that's why I have longed to visit here,
我也非常希望我的孩子將來能夠來文禮書院學習。
I sincerely hope my child will be admitted to Wenli Academy one day.
紅岩隧道，是通往溫州泰順縣竹里鄉的最後一條隧道。
Hongyan Tunnel, the last tunnel before the Zhuli village in Taishun, Wenzhou city.
2015年3月1日以來，許多人穿過這條隧道，踏上這片鮮為人知的土地。
Since March 1st of 2015, many have traveled through this tunnel to set foot on this little known land.
這裡地處北緯27.5°，四季分明，
Located along 27.5°N, this is a land with four distinctive seasons,
植被茂盛，遠離喧囂，
characterized by lush vegetation, and far away from the hustle and bustle of the cities.
是一塊極其偏僻的山野，人煙稀少，
This remote mountain area is sparsely inhabited.
下高速後
After getting off the freeway,
需要經過十一條隧道方能抵達，
one has to go through eleven tunnels to reach this place,.
其風光宛若世外桃源。
A beautiful secluded paradise.
這裡，就是溫州泰順竹里鄉的茶石村。
This is the Chashi Community of Zhuli village, Taishun, Wenzhou City.
2014年秋，王財貴先生再次登上這道山脈，
In the fall of 2014, Mr. Wang Caigui climbed up this mountain again.
這已經是他第七次來到這裡勘地，
This was his seventh trip here.
他想要在這裡實現自己後半生的理想
Here, he wanted to realize his lifelong dream
建一座千年書院。
of building a millennium academy, an academy that would stand the test of time.
三十六平方公里未經開發的土地上，
On this 36-square-kilometer undeveloped land,
最終會座落一座城，
a town will be built.
這座城的主體建築群就是書院的院落。
The main building complex will be the courtyard of the academy，
書院規劃建於
which is anticipated to be located on
一處群山環抱的緩坡之上，
a gentle slope surrounded by the mountains.
環繞視野可及十數公里。
From here, one’s vision can reach as far as ten kilometers.
此地坐北朝南，
The main building of the academy will face south,
可仰觀天文，
one can easily look up to observe astronomy,
俯察地理，
and gaze down to survey geography.
氣象不凡。
It is indeed a quite extraordinary setting.
今日山林荒野，
A wild forest today,
他日學府巍峨。
will be transformed into a magnificent center for scholarship tomorrow.
從最切身處講，
Speaking from the heart,
這裡將成為中國最後的淨土。
I believe this place may be the last pure land in China.
尋找最佳的風水格局，
Finding a place with the best Feng Shui,
打造最優秀的建設團隊，
bringing together the finest construction team,
採用最符合天地之道的設計規劃……
and applying a harmonious design based on the natural way of the universe.
為了這一天，
For this day to happen,
他默默準備了二十年。
he has been preparing for twenty years.
王財貴先生，台灣台中教育大學退休教授，
Mr. Wang Caigui, a retired professor of Taichung Normal University,
1994年開始推廣兒童讀經教育。
has been promoting Dujing Education since 1994.
2003年之後，
Ever since 2003,
在王教授的倡導下，
following Professor Wang’s advice,
繼承古代私塾又超越古代私塾的
a special type of contemporary classical schools which not only inherit from,
現代私塾開始興起。
but also transcend their ancient counterparts, have appeared.

一個人，如果從小開始，
If a person, starting from a young age,
就接受包括中、西、印等全人類高度智慧的熏陶，
is immersed in the great wisdom of all mankind, including Chinese, Western and Indian cultures.
飽飫詩書，經典在抱。
learning the classics by heart,
那麼，到了青少年 時期，
Then, at adolescence,
當他的憤悱之情油然生心之時，
when he/she is eager and determined to learn,
就需要接受啓發
he/she would need to be inspired.
——他要解經
He/she would need to fathom the profound meaning of the classics
以就其學問之深，
to complete his/her knowledge,
要博覽以拓其見識之廣。
and to explore the world to expand the breadth of his/her vision.
我們要給他們一個成長的空間，
we need to provide space for them to grow,
扶持他們，栽培他們。
we need to support and cultivate them.
「文禮書院」正為此一目的而開設。
That is why Wenli Academy was founded.
文禮書院的命名，
And Wenli Academy is named after
取自《論語•雍也》中的
a sentence in the sixth chapter Yongye of the Analects:
「君子博學於文，
“A good man studies extensively the arts and literature,
約之以禮」
and directs his studies with ritual”
和《論語》中顏淵的喟嘆——
and Yan Yuan’s famous exclaimed sigh in the Analects --
「夫子循循然善誘人，
“Our master – step by step, how skillfully he leads others along!
博我以文，約我以禮」。
He broadens me with culture, reins me in with ritual”.
或許人們還沒有意識到，
Maybe most people have not realized
我們如今正處於一個大時代，
that we are in a great era,
一個前所未有的中西文化得以相遇的時代，
where Chinese and Western cultures are converging as never before.
世界需要這樣的人才——
The world needs such talents,
博古通今、融匯中西、
whose knowledge extend from the past to the present, and from the East to the West,
厚積薄發、返本開新，
who are well-grounded and could return to a culture’s origin to bring forth new thoughts,
為我們的民族，也為全人類，負起一點責任。
to take responsibility not only for our nation, but also for humanity.
培養出這樣的人才，正是文禮書院的理想。
To foster such talents is exactly the goal of Wenli Academy.
如今，來自全國兩岸三地，
At this moment, students from the mainland China, Taiwan and Hongkong,
背誦過三十萬字
who have memorized more than three-hundred thousand words of
中外文經典，
classics in Chinese and other languages
符合入學條件的青年學子，
and who have met the requirements of Wenli Academy,
隨文禮書院遷至泰順，
relocated themselves to Taishun following the footsteps of Wenli Academy
暫時落腳於竹里鄉文化禮堂，
temporally reside in the Cultural Center of Zhuli village,
展開了他們更深入的學習。
to begin their more in-depth study.
他們一般凌晨四點起床，行禮拜聖、
Awake at 4am, they salute Confucius, the Great Sage;
溫習經典、解經自學、
review and interpret the classical scripts by themselves;
學習英文梵文、
study English, Sanskrit, etc.,
廣泛涉獵中西方重要著作、
They read extensively from important literature of the East and the West;
練習武術、書法、古琴……
and practice Wushu, Calligraphy, Guqin…
根據讀經教育的規劃，
Based on Dujing Education’s planning,
十年私塾讀經、
through 10 years reading at private schools,
十年書院講貫，
10 years of interpreting classics at Wenli Academy,
再經十年社會的歷練，
and 10 year ofs social experience and toughening,,
這些有著深厚學思功底的孩子漸漸長大，
these adolescents will grow into adults with strong capabilities of self-learning and critical thinking.
可能會活出和他們的祖輩父輩不一樣的人生。
They are likely to lead life different from their parents and grandparents
這當然不是王財貴教授一個人的心愿。
This dream, of course, does not just belong to Professor Wang.
文禮書院的這份理想，
The ultimate dream of Wenli Academy
承載著儒家一貫的精神，
carries on the living spirit of Confucianism:
為天地立心，
To ordain conscience for Heaven and Earth.
為生民立命，
To secure life and fortune for the people.
為往聖繼絕學，
To continue lost teachings for past sages.

To establish peace for all future generations.
也秉承著當代新儒家的不懈追求。
Finally, it also upholds the constant dedication of the Contemporary New Confucianism.
如今，文禮書院定址浙江溫州，泰順竹里，
Now, the Wenli Academy is located in Zhuli Village, Taishun County, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province.
千年的志業有了扎根的土壤。
Such place will provide a solid ground for this millennium academy.
在不久的將來，
In the near future,
這裡將聚集更多飽讀經典的青年學子。
this academy will attract many young scholars well versed in the classics.
我們相信，這裡將成為中華文化的復興之源，
We believe that Wenli Academy will be the center for the revival of Chinese traditional culture;
這裡將成為世界文化交流的中心，
as well as a center for global cultural communication,
為人類培養匯通中西的大人才。
that nurtures great talents who can master both the Chinese and western philosophies.

終於在神州大地，
Finally, on this divine place of China,
我們找到了溫州市泰順縣竹里鄉這個地方。
we found Zhuli village in Taishun, Wenzhou, China.
在今年，也就是2015年3月，
In March 2015,
我們就入駐竹里鄉，就在這裡落腳了。
we moved to Zhuli village and finally settled down.
我願以我的餘生，
I would like to share the rest of my life,
陪著學生，與書院同在。
with the students of the Academy.
我將終老於泰順，終老於竹里。
I will be growing old in Taishun, spending the rest of my life in Zhuli.
希望這個書院不只是一時的，她是永久的。
I hope this Academy will be a long-lasting institution.
當然這個書院也不是某一個個人的，
This Academy does not belong to any individual,
她是屬於全中國的，乃至於是全世界的。
It belongs to China, and the world.
因此希望中國人，乃至於世界關心教育文化的人士，
Therefore I hope Chinese and people who care about education from all over the world,
也都來關懷文禮書院，
could support Wenli Academy,
大家合力把文禮書院辦成，辦好，
and work together to build and run Wenli Academy successfully.
